OSPREY SHUTTLE, CREW’S LOG 21/4/2031 14:47UTC

SPECIALIST AMELIA RAMIREZ, ALPHA GROUND TEAM

My team arrived for a scheduled training exercise on Vox R79 at 13:06UTC. Our expected

liaison, Dr. Evan Mendes, was not here to meet us. No one was. My assessment is that the

Erebus outpost has been deserted for months. The facility is overgrown with vegetation, and

nothing inside is operational. It seems like they left in a hurry and never came back. Something

must have scared the hell out of these people.

After executing a brief sweep of the immediate area around the outpost, we’ve found no

obvious signs of wildlife, Dr. Mendes, or the missing crew in the surrounding woods. There’s

something unnerving about the silence. The team is on edge. Vox R79 doesn’t feel like any

planet I’ve been on.

Our check-in with Nova Base was set for 14:00UTC, but our own communications

equipment is down. Assuming a rescue shuttle was dispatched soon after we missed check-in, it

should arrive in approximately 21 hours.

As for the team: Cameron is testy but solid. Gates has an itchy trigger finger and won’t stop

pacing. Dr. Walden is hopeful she will be able to establish communication within the hour.

Nothing about this seems right.

21/4/2031 18:04UTC

Dr. Walden assumes something in the atmosphere is interfering with our comm equipment.

She seems worried now.

The Osprey was fueled for a one-way trip; we have a week’s worth of emergency rations,

but we can’t get off this planet on our own. We’re now four hours overdue for check-in, and I

have to assume a second shuttle is already en route, for all our sakes.

We’re going to split into teams and search an expanded perimeter for any evidence of the

outpost’s missing crew. Individual radios also are affected by whatever is keeping us from

contacting base command. I’ve instructed Gates and Cameron to meet back at the outpost in two

hours.

I’m trying to keep a brave face for the rest of the team, but I don’t know what we’re doing

here.

21/4/2031 20:35UTC

Walden and I found a settlement two klicks from the outpost. It’s full of bodies. They appear

to be local inhabitants of the planet, not the missing crew. These people weren’t killed by disease

or anything in the atmosphere. Their throats were slashed, their chests ripped open. It looked like

an animal attack, but there were no teeth marks on the bodies; no sign of any animals in the area.

We found one survivor, a boy. His name is Adam, but he isn’t saying much more than that.

He’s terrified, doesn’t remember what happened to the rest of the settlement, or when. He’s

obviously been through something horrible.

Cameron and Gates haven’t returned.

21/4/2031 22:11UTC

Gates is MIA. Cameron returned to the outpost an hour late, alone. He didn’t see what

happened, but he’s spooked. I’ve worked with the man for three years, and I’ve never seen him

so shaken. He says the thing that took Gates was too fast, like a blur. Whatever is in those

woods, it doesn’t leave tracks.

Adam isn’t talking at all now. He seems to be in shock.

We collected the rations and medical supplies from the Osprey and have barricaded

ourselves inside the outpost for the night. I scheduled shifts for watch, but I don’t expect any of

us will be able to sleep. It’s unnaturally quiet on this planet.

We’re eight hours overdue.

21/4/2031 07:29UTC

We found what was left of Gates not far from the outpost. Whatever attacked him didn’t eat

him. It killed for sport. I have to assume it’s the same thing that killed the people in the

settlement, but this was vicious. His heart was torn out. He has a young daughter. She shouldn’t

know that part.

I’ve been all over this galaxy, and I’ve never heard of anything that kills like that.

Rescue should be here within five hours. I’m starting to worry we’re already out of time.

21/4/2031 13:57UTC

Something is wrong with the kid. Adam. He didn’t sleep, and he hasn’t eaten. When he

looks at me it scares the shit out of me.

Walden is still working on the comms, but it seems fruitless. Cameron says we’re sitting

ducks. His eyes are wild and won’t let go of his gun.

The rescue shuttle should have been here by now.

22/4/2031 00:19UTC

The gunshots woke me, fifteen minutes ago. Then the screaming. It was Cameron. Whatever

this thing is, it’s evolved from stealth killings to careless massacres. He wasn’t supposed to go

outside. I don’t know why he did.

Walden’s a science officer. And the kid is just that, a kid. I have to keep us all alive until

help arrives.

If help arrives.

22/4/2031 04:02UTC

I don’t know if this communique will transmit, but I have to try. For Gates’s daughter and

Cameron’s family and for my husband Cal I have to try.

I tried to save Walden but he was too fast It was Adam.

He changed.

It came from nowhere it had claws. He had claws. I got four shots off but it didn’t slow him

down. It got me in the leg and Walden starting shooting.

She saved me.

I couldn’t save her.

I made it back to the outpost and sealed myself in the shuttle and got a pressure bandage

around my thigh. But I left a trail and I think the damage has been done.

God, I can still hear her screaming.

I don’t know how long I have before he finds me.

I can still hear.

I hear engines! I think the rescue shuttle is here.

NOVA BASE COMMAND TO EREBUS CORPORATION 22/4/2031 04:31UTC

Osprey shuttle has been destroyed and the remaining witness terminated. The asset is back

in containment. All signs indicate the training exercise was a complete success.

Official recommendation is that Project Genesis is ready for next phase of deployment on

resistant planets.
