We love in the space between

the radiance of streetlights where

shadows dwell as full darkness remains

outside this temporary realm.

Nobody watches us.

I watch us become phantoms in this nightfall,

our bodies that have been battered from

the downpour of desire

now melting away as innocent affection tethers

our souls together in halcyon silence.

We lie awake in bed the following morning,

not breaking,

not busying,

just breathing,

breathing in each other’s simple words and

the simplicity of it all.

We remain in the shadows created by the sunrise

painting beautiful patterns over

our clothed, blanketed bodies,

strings of soft love

flowing from our cracked fingertips

and molding us into

a breathless masterpiece,

blooming, thriving within the serenity

of our soft-lit existence

residing between

the faded stillness of nothingness and

the luminous echoes of the weary world.
