Vowel Movement

Lara Bausten

Anyway, picture me in waders:

fishing pants, second skin,

body tent; boots attached,

nothing underneath, up to my neck in it.

Mending my nets with it; hands reading the holes,

the things I forgot, that slipped through the --- careful,

the current. Careful, the mud.

The moving ground, on what ground than I

care to remember. Forever knitting a new blanket,

forever tide versus chest,

breasts pressed against the lining;

eyes towards the riverbank. The cold that isn't wet.

But sometimes? Sometimes I get to pet the sun

 as it melts onto the water.
